Resident Return Visas

Resident Return Visas (RRV)

Holding a permanent residency visa gives you the right to stay in Australia indefinitely—but it does not give you an indefinite right to re-enter the country if you leave. At Silvereye Migration, we provide the technical precision and strategic oversight needed to secure your travel facility and protect your permanent resident status.

Subclass 155 & 157: Resident Return Visas

If the travel facility on your original permanent visa has expired, or is about to expire, you must obtain a Resident Return Visa before traveling outside Australia.

  • The Five-Year Facility (Subclass 155): Typically granted to those who have lived in Australia for at least two of the last five years.
  • The One-Year/Short-Term Facility (Subclass 155/157): For those who do not meet the two-year residency requirement but can demonstrate “substantial ties” to Australia that are of benefit to the country.

Our “Substantial Ties” Strategy

When you haven’t met the standard residency requirement, the Department of Home Affairs applies a high level of scrutiny to your application. This is where we build a compelling case for your return.

We forensically document your “substantial ties” across four key pillars:

  1. Business Ties: Evidence of your ongoing involvement in Australian business operations or investment.
  2. Cultural Ties: Documentation of your contribution to Australia’s intellectual, artistic, or religious life.
  3. Employment Ties: Proof of an ongoing job offer or current employment with an Australian organization.
  4. Personal Ties: Evidence of your long-term residence in Australia or significant family connections (such as an Australian citizen partner or children).

The Silvereye Advantage: Protecting Your Status

An RRV application is more than just a form; it is a declaration of your commitment to Australia. We handle these cases with the intensity and forensic detail required to ensure a successful outcome.

  • Compelling Reason Advocacy: If you have been outside Australia for more than five continuous years, we help you articulate the “compelling reasons” for your absence, ensuring your narrative is backed by verified evidence.
  • Integrity-First Reporting: We use verified government data to ensure your travel history and residency claims are 100% accurate, protecting you from potential hurdles regarding PIC 4020.
  • Empathy-Led Support: We act as your advocate to ensure your permanent status is never at risk.

Strategic Advice for Permanent Residents

Do not wait until you are at the airport to check your travel facility. At Silvereye Migration, we recommend a “Decision-Ready” audit of your residency status at least six months before any planned international travel. We treat your right to return as our highest priority.
